Setting or what ever: Medieval Europe, a time of castles, knights, kings, and queens. When Christianity was still spreading and there were many more cathedrals, huge churches, near or in the kingdoms or castle areas. When richer families were able to send there children or child to school or to hire a tutor, to teach them too read and write. When poorer families had to teach their children or child at home, sometime not to read and write, sometimes to sew and to work in the fields and around the house. When women were not aloud on a stage or to speak in church. When the men did all the acting, of both women and men parts. When some what more artist and writers became of, with lovely pieces of art and wonderful plays and books. When scholars became a bit more concerned on the humans around them. As things changed every passing decade.....
My begining thing: As Joan felt someone shaking her lightly, she groaned and sat up, and opened her eyes slowly. It was her mother.
“Joan.” Her mother said lightly,
“You have to get up. Your brother shall become a knight today, and serve for out lord.”
Joan thought about her older brother, John. There family had just been able to have him trained, but just barely. They weren’t the riches family but not the poorest either.
Joan look at her mother’s lovely face. She had short cut hair, and ocean clear blue eyes. Her mother had a semi tight jaw and a wore out expression on her face. Her eyes still sparkled though. They sparkled with joy, that her son was going to become a knight. Then Joan saw the slightest hint of worry on her face, worry of losing her son.
Joan knew that her mother feared this day. Although it was a happy day, it was also a day that reminded them of there father. Joan’s father was a knight, until he got killed. Everyone feared the same would happen to John.
Joan then nodded and said “ Okay Mother, I shall be out soon.”
“Okay, hurry then.” Joan’s mother said and then left the room.
Joan sat there for another moment looking around the small room. She looked at the cot, or bed, on the other side of the room, 5 or 7 feet away, from her’s. It was empty. She remembered that her older sister, Elizabeth, use to sleep there. Four years ago Elizabeth had gotten married, at the age of 15. Most girls, or young women as Joan’s mother called them, did get married at that age. The wedding was held at a church not far for where they lived. A wedding is usually a bug thing for the families big and small, and always something worth celebrating. The celebration lasted almost all that day.
Joan finally got out of bed and got into her best dress. The dress went down to her ankles and was a wore blue color. No women ever wore pants, only men and boys. Joan had brown hair like her mothers but a bit darker and it went to her shoulder. Her eyes were a dark blue, like th night time sky , the opposite of her mother’s. Joan was just at the age of 14. Joan’s face was not as tight as her mothers, and she had less of a sparkle in her eyes.
Joan didn’t want her brother to become a knight, she knew she wouldn’t see him as much. She didn’t even see him much now. He had started a family of his own just about a year or two ago, but he tried to stay in touch. She was happy for him though, and wished him the best.
