“I think so.” she says after a while. “But I’m not sure...I wonder if Nathan will want to go...” Nathan is Megan’s boyfriend. He’s alright...I guess.
He’s just a bit...plain. He’s nice and sweet alright, but sometimes he’s boring.
It just work’s like this: he has a nice job, nice apartment, nice girlfriend (for now), nice dog, and a nice car. Its all so...plain, to me (and Linna) . I mean, what’s fun with being with someone if there not exciting, or...or just not plain?
Me and Linna secretly have a downer on them, though. They don’t seem to fit...
“Emily? Girls?” I hear mom calling to us from downstairs. “Come and eat, dears, we’re having spaghetti!” We heard her walk away.
“Well, girls?” I ask Megan and Linna. They grin and come downstairs with me.
Jamie is running around mom in circles shouting: “Paghetti! Paghetti! Paghettiiiiiiiiii!” While dad try’s to get her to quiet down by singing “Row Row Row Your Boat”. Of course, it isn’t working, and the volume on Jamie increases, so we all have to put our hands over our ears. “OK!” roars mom. “DINNERS READY!”
This shut Jamie up at once. She sprinted to the table, while all of us (mom at the back, holding a steaming pot of soup) made our way towards the table.
As soon as we sit down, my head is spinning. Who is this guy? If he sees me, then he must go to my school. Yes. That weeds down the list of guys a lot. But there must be hundreds of guys that go to my school. I sigh in my head. What should I do?
Flirt with all the guys, as Megan had suggested, but refuse to get serious with them?
God, the letter could be just a prank (my heart sinks at this thought). A prank that some boys would find hilarious. But if it isn’t a prank, then at least he knows me and is a friend... Moodily I stab one of my meat balls with my fork, turning it around and around in my fingers, torn about what to do.
“Emily, dear?” says mom reproachfully from the other side of the table, looking at me in concern. “Are you alright?” I look up, and see everyone else looking at me too.
“Oh, yes.” I fluster. “Yeah, fine. Just a little tired...” I yawn. “Well, no wonder.” says mom, going back to her normal tone. “You where up late last night I heard.” she gives me a stern look, and I have to giggle. Last night me and Linna went over to Megan’s house for a sleep over, and went to bed very late indeed (e.i. after one AM).
Linna and Megan shoot me looks while eating there spaghetti.
I lower my gaze to my plate and keep eating. We’ll have to go to the park tomorrow...I know its exactly where we’ll meet tomorrow morning...
